PrayerPower ‘It’s empty!’

By Mervyn Morelock, Lt. Colonel Some years ago, an officer friend related the after-church conversation he and his wife had with their daughters. Like many families, they talked with their children about that day’s Sunday school lesson. Christie, 4, was first. Try as she might, she couldn’t remember the lesson. Her sister, Julie, 6, was next. [...]

By Mervyn Morelock,Lt. Colonel Have you ever prayed for a change in the weather? I suppose we all have at one time or another. We pray for good weather when we begin a trip, whether by land, air or sea. We pray for good weather when we are planning a picnic, taking a hike, or [...]

By Mervyn Morelock ,Lt. Colone Each year around this time we begin to think of pumpkins and turkeys and families getting together for a Thanksgiving feast. By Mervyn Morelock, Lt. Colonel I heard that phrase again: “Lord, build a hedge of protection around my friend.” I’ve noticed that we often use similar phrases in our prayers. I notice it in myself. Each week at our Adult Rehabilitation Center, the men and women who have completed the six-month program are honored and [...]

Prayer Power- Who gets the credit?

By Mervyn Morelock, Lt. Colonel Who gets the credit for answers to prayer? Why God does, of course! We have many misconceptions about prayer. If prayer is not for the purpose of moving God to my point of view, what is its aim? If I can’t change God, why should I pray? Who gets the credit [...]

PrayerPower – Consequences

By Mervyn Morelock, Lt. Colonel   Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayer, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry [...]

Prayer Power – “The best prayer I’ve heard in a long time”

by Mervyn Morelock, Lt. Colonel
Every day, the Internet carries a lot of e-mail information to my computer that I quickly delete. One of my most used keys is the delete button! I can never figure out how my name is on so many e-mail lists—or how I can get off. My spam file is bulging every time I open it to do a cleaning job.

Prayer Power – “The message of hope…”

by Mervyn Morelock, Lt. Colonel

…is why we pray. Archbishop Desmond Tutu wrote, “Hope is fundamental to the way we, as Christians, live our lives.” When my hope fades, or even shifts to someone other than Jesus, then I’m walking on sinking sand.
